100% Recycled Wood

Our Tonewood

is the culmination of naturally aged wood that we handle with the utmost respect using traditional processing and drying methods. All our wood is hand split to minimize run-out. We have also learned that as wood dries, it can develop stress so by slowly air drying our tonewood, it will help keep stresses within tolerable levels and help avoid defects. Feel free to contact us to receive information and prices on our current inventory. We should mention that we do not currently provide a catalog on our website, however we are working on our online store, patience is the key! Our store will show you a good selection of our tonewood and provide you with pictures of each piece, parcel tracking and the security and convenience of paying by Paypal. Don't hesitate to contact us directly if you prefer or should you have any special requests or are interested in large quantities.

Sitka Spruce

Haida Gwaii Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) is renowned for its stiffness, strength, and naturally warm tones. It has been used the world over on acoustic instruments of all types. Few people know that the spruce from Haida Gwaii was highly prized due to these same properties for the construction of the famous de Havilland Mosquito Bomber used in WWII. We are proud to offer you the finest "bear-claw" and "curly" figured spruce tops for acoustic, thinline, arch top, and harp guitars. We are fortunate to have a supply of spectacular "private stock" figured spruce tops that will turn the head of any guitar lover for just one more look. Our straight spruce is second-to-none for its fine grain and tonal quality. We offer a selection of grades and can custom-cut to order. Our outstanding spruce is also available in easy to carve bracewood of varying sizes.

Western Red Cedar

The People of Haida Gwaii have prized Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) for millennia as a building material and artistic medium, most notably for longhouses, widely-traded dug-out canoes, clan poles, masks, and box drums. More recently, our Western Red Cedar has become appreciated for its warm tonal quality, stiffness, and fine-grained texture for classical and steel string acoustic guitar sound boards. We offer colors ranging from light tan to deep red, striking "sinker" streaking, pink, black and yellow, caused by the mineral deposits that have leached into the wood over the years resulting into a "multi-color" top. We are also pleased to offer a unique selection of "curly" red cedar for electric drop-tops and one or two-piece bodies.

Yellow Cedar

We offer high elevation Yellow cedar (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis) tops and back and sides for classical and flamenco guitars. Our Yellow cedar tends to be so finely-grained that it can be a challenge to see beyond the smooth golden top. We offer a variety of grades to suit any taste or need.

Red Alder

Some of the highest quality Red alder (Alnus rubra) can be found on our Islands. We supply top of the line clear and spalted alder in drop tops, one-piece, and two-piece bodies for electric guitars, as well as back and sides for acoustic guitars. Our alder is cut-to-order, so please do not hesitate to contact us with your custom requests.

Specialty Wood

These are what we call the gifts from nature, whether that be beachcombed logs, burls, or other unique wood we find.
